Your bespoke caravan mattress is hand-made in our Birmingham workshop using high-quality foams and fabrics. To get the very best from it and keep your guarantee valid, please read and follow this Care Guide carefully. This guide forms part of our Terms and Conditions; damage caused by failure to follow these instructions is not covered under our guarantee.
Unrolling Your Mattress on Arrival
Our mattresses are vacuum-rolled and folded for delivery so they can fit through caravan doors and travel safely. Once yours arrives, it's essential it is unrolled and laid flat as soon as possible.
The 7-day unrolling rule: your mattress must be unrolled and laid flat within 7 days of delivery. Foam left compressed and folded for longer can take a permanent set at the fold lines, leaving deep grooves that cannot be reversed. This is not a manufacturing fault and is not covered by our guarantee.
Wherever possible, unroll your mattress on the day it arrives. Once unrolled:
- Lay the mattress flat on the bed base.
- Allow 24 to 72 hours for the foam to fully expand and recover its shape.
- Keep the room well ventilated — a slight new-foam odour is normal and will dissipate.
- Do not sleep on the mattress until it has fully expanded.
Inspecting Your Mattress on Arrival
Please inspect your mattress carefully when it arrives. If you notice any physical damage, manufacturing defects, or receive an item that does not match your order, contact us within 7 days of delivery with your order number and photographic evidence.
Reports made significantly later than 7 days may be harder to investigate, and we may require additional evidence to assess the claim. Please refer to our Cancellations, Returns & Refund Policy for the full procedure.
Choosing a Suitable Bed Base
The bed base your mattress sits on directly affects both comfort and longevity. To protect the foam and maintain proper support:
- The base should be flat, firm and fully supportive across the entire surface.
- Slatted bases should have slats no more than 7cm apart to stop the foam sagging between gaps.
- Avoid worn, broken or uneven bases — these cause premature dipping that is not covered by the guarantee.
- Make sure the base is the correct size so the whole underside is supported.
Storage Instructions
When your caravan is not in use, your mattress should always be stored correctly to avoid permanent damage:
- Store the mattress flat on the bed base whenever possible.
- Never store it folded, rolled, or compressed under heavy items.
- Avoid prolonged storage on its edge — foam can deform if left on its side for long periods.
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated environment to prevent damp and mould.
- Avoid extreme temperatures and direct sunlight, and don't place heavy objects on top.
Important: damage caused by improper storage — including being left folded, rolled or compressed for extended periods — is not covered under our guarantee.
Everyday Use
To even out wear and extend the life of your mattress:
- Where the mattress is double-sided, turn it over periodically to even out compression.
- Air the mattress regularly by removing bedding and letting it breathe.
- Always use a fitted sheet or mattress protector to guard against spills, perspiration and wear.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Foam mattresses cannot be machine washed or soaked. To keep yours clean:
- Use a mattress protector at all times — your best defence against spills, stains and wear.
- For minor spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
- For surface marks, spot clean with a mild detergent and a damp (not wet) cloth, then air dry fully.
- Never soak, steam clean, or machine wash the mattress or foam core.
- Removable zip-off covers, where supplied, can be cleaned in line with their sewn-in care label.
Note: stains, soiling, liquid damage and burns are excluded from our guarantee. We strongly recommend a waterproof mattress protector from day one.
Normal Foam Characteristics
Foam mattresses have natural characteristics that are not defects:
- Initial settling: all foam softens slightly during the first few weeks of use — normal, and it won't affect support or comfort.
- Body impressions: a small impression of up to around 33mm (3cm) where the body regularly rests is normal over time and is not a defect.
- New-foam odour: a faint odour when first unrolled is normal and dissipates within a few days of airing.
- Manufacturing tolerances: in line with BS 1334:1996, dimensional tolerances of up to 20mm (+/-) apply; larger tolerances may apply to shaped sections, cut-outs or curves.
What This Means for Your Guarantee
Our up-to-10-year guarantee covers genuine defects in materials and workmanship. The following are not covered, as they fall outside a manufacturing fault:
- Compression or fold damage from leaving the mattress rolled in its packaging for longer than 7 days after delivery.
- Damage from storing the mattress folded, rolled or compressed at any point after unrolling.
- Damage from an unsuitable, broken or unsupportive bed base.
- Damage from damp, wet, or excessively hot storage conditions.
- Stains, soiling, burns, cuts, tears and liquid damage.
- Normal foam softening over time and changes in personal comfort preference.
