Mattress Care & Storage

Important care, unrolling and storage instructions to keep your bespoke mattress in peak condition and protect your guarantee.

Key Points:

  • β€’ Unroll your mattress within 7 days of delivery to avoid permanent foam damage.
  • β€’ Inspect your mattress on arrival and report any damage within 7 days.
  • β€’ Always store your mattress flat β€” never folded, rolled or on its edge.
  • β€’ Use a suitable bed base and mattress protector to maintain support and hygiene.
  • β€’ Failure to follow these instructions may void your guarantee.

Your bespoke caravan mattress has been hand-made in our Birmingham workshop using high-quality foams and fabrics. To get the very best from your mattress and to keep your guarantee valid, please read and follow this Care Guide carefully.

This guide forms part of our Terms and Conditions. Damage caused by failure to follow these instructions is not covered under our guarantee.

Unrolling Your Mattress on Arrival

Our mattresses are vacuum-rolled and folded for delivery so they can fit through caravan doors and be transported safely. Once your mattress arrives, it is essential that it is unrolled and laid flat as soon as possible.

Important β€” 7 Day Unrolling Rule: Your mattress must be unrolled and laid flat within 7 days of delivery. Foam that is left compressed and folded for longer than this can take a permanent set at the fold lines, leaving deep grooves in the surface that cannot be reversed. This type of damage is not a manufacturing fault and is not covered by our guarantee.

Wherever possible, we recommend unrolling your mattress on the day it arrives. Once unrolled:

β€’ Lay the mattress flat on the bed base.
β€’ Allow 24 to 72 hours for the foam to fully expand and recover its shape.
β€’ Ensure the room is well ventilated during this period β€” a slight new-foam odour is normal and will dissipate.
β€’ Do not sleep on the mattress until it has fully expanded.

Inspecting Your Mattress on Arrival

Please inspect your mattress carefully when it arrives. If you notice any physical damage, manufacturing defects, or have received an item that does not match your order, you must contact us within 7 days of delivery, providing your order number and photographic evidence of the issue.

Reports of damage made significantly later than 7 days may be more difficult to investigate, and we may require additional evidence to assess the claim. Please refer to our Cancellations, Returns & Refund Policy for the full procedure.

Choosing a Suitable Bed Base

The bed base your mattress sits on directly affects both comfort and longevity. To protect the foam and maintain proper support:

β€’ The base should be flat, firm and fully supportive across the entire surface.
β€’ Slatted bases should have slats no more than 7cm apart to prevent the foam from sagging between gaps.
β€’ Avoid worn, broken or uneven bed bases β€” these will cause premature dipping that is not covered by the guarantee.
β€’ Ensure the base is the correct size for the mattress so that the entire underside is supported.

Storage Instructions

When your caravan or motorhome is not in use, your mattress should always be stored correctly to avoid permanent damage:

β€’ Store the mattress flat on the bed base whenever possible.
β€’ Never store the mattress folded, rolled, or compressed under heavy items.
β€’ Avoid prolonged storage on its edge β€” foam can deform if left on its side for extended periods.
β€’ Store in a dry, well-ventilated environment to prevent damp and mould.
β€’ Avoid storing in extreme temperatures or in direct sunlight.
β€’ Do not place heavy objects on top of the mattress during storage.

Important: Damage caused by improper storage β€” including being left folded, rolled or compressed for extended periods β€” is not covered under our guarantee.

Everyday Use

To even out wear and extend the life of your mattress:

β€’ Where the mattress is double-sided, turn it over periodically to even out compression.
β€’ Air the mattress regularly by removing bedding and allowing it to breathe.
β€’ Always use a fitted sheet or mattress protector to guard against spills, perspiration and wear.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Foam mattresses cannot be machine washed or soaked. To keep your mattress clean:

β€’ Use a mattress protector at all times β€” this is the best protection against spills, stains and general wear.
β€’ For minor spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub.
β€’ For surface marks, spot clean using a mild detergent and a damp (not wet) cloth, then allow to air dry fully.
β€’ Never soak, steam clean, or machine wash the mattress or foam core.
β€’ Removable zip-off covers (where supplied) can be cleaned in line with the care label sewn into the cover.

Note: Stains, soiling, liquid damage and burns are excluded from our guarantee. We strongly recommend using a waterproof mattress protector from day one.

Normal Foam Characteristics

Foam mattresses have certain natural characteristics that are not defects:

β€’ Initial settling: All foam mattresses soften slightly during the first few weeks of use. This is normal and will not affect support or comfort.
β€’ Body impressions: A small impression of up to around 33mm (3cm) where the body regularly rests is normal over time and is not considered a defect.
β€’ New foam odour: A faint odour when first unrolled is normal and will dissipate within a few days of airing.
β€’ Manufacturing tolerances: In line with BS 1334:1996, dimensional tolerances of up to 20mm (+/-) apply to all products. Larger tolerances may apply to shaped sections, cut-outs or curved areas.
