Bespoke Alliance RV Mattresses

Alliance RV is one of the newer names in American recreational vehicles, but it has built a serious reputation very quickly. Founded in 2019 in Elkhart, Indiana, Alliance now makes four distinct ranges — the Paradigm luxury fifth wheel, the Avenue mid-profile fifth wheel, the Delta lightweight travel trailer, and the Valor toy hauler. They are available in the UK through Majestic RV in Essex, the exclusive British and European distributor. American Beds, British Bedding Problems

The fundamental issue with any American-built RV is that the bed dimensions are imperial and do not match anything you can buy in a British shop. The standard Alliance queen bed is 60 inches by 80 inches — that works out at roughly 152cm by 203cm. A UK king is 150cm by 200cm. Close, but not close enough. A UK shop-bought king will be 2cm too narrow and 3cm too short, leaving gaps around the edges. The same problem applies in reverse — an American queen is too wide for a UK double frame. Every Alliance bed sits in an awkward middle ground between UK sizes, and the only reliable solution is a mattress cut to the exact dimensions of the bed platform.

Bunk beds in Alliance trailers are even further from any standard size. The Delta 251BH has bunks at 46 by 75 inches, the 321BH has a pair at 40 by 72 inches and a flip bunk at 36 by 72 inches. None of these correspond to anything you will find on the high street. If you want to replace the bunk mattresses in an Alliance, they need to be made from scratch.

Fifth Wheels — Paradigm and Avenue

The Paradigm and Avenue are fifth wheel trailers, which means they are towed by a pickup truck with a hitch mounted in the truck bed. The front section sits above the truck bed and typically houses the master bedroom, accessed by a short flight of stairs. This raised bedroom is one of the things that makes fifth wheels popular — it gives you a genuinely separate sleeping area — but it also means the mattress sits in an elevated section with fixed walls on three sides and sometimes limited overhead clearance.

The Paradigm is Alliance's flagship. Some models, like the 395DS, have two queen bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms — essentially a two-bedroom flat on wheels. The beds are residential queen size at 60 by 80 inches, and the factory mattresses are decent by RV standards, but they are still basic foam. For a trailer that costs well into six figures, upgrading to a proper memory foam or CoolPlus™ cool gel mattress makes a significant difference to how it sleeps.

The Avenue is a step more affordable but still uses the same 60 by 80 inch queen bed. The Avenue All-Access range includes models like the 26RD which Majestic RV stocks specifically for the UK market. The same mattress sizing issues apply — nothing off the shelf will fit properly.

Delta Travel Trailers

The Delta is the lightest and most caravan-like model in the Alliance range. It is a conventional travel trailer rather than a fifth wheel, designed to be towed by a large SUV or pickup. The front bedroom has a standard 60 by 80 inch queen bed with storage underneath, and bunk models have rear bunks in various non-standard sizes. These are the Alliance models most likely to be used for touring in Britain, and they are also the ones where owners first discover that the beds are not UK sizes.

One practical note on the Delta — the bedroom has a privacy curtain rather than a solid door on some layouts. This means the mattress needs to work well from day one because you cannot close the door and forget about it. A sagging or poorly fitting mattress is more noticeable when the bed is partially visible from the living area.

What We Recommend for Alliance RVs

Weight is far less of a concern with Alliance vehicles than with a typical British touring caravan. Even the lightest Delta model weighs over 3,500kg, and the Paradigm fifth wheels weigh upwards of 6,000kg. The bed platforms are built for residential-style mattresses, so you can go for depth and density without worrying about overloading gas struts or exceeding payload limits. For bunk beds, we typically make a 10cm to 15cm foam mattress — deep enough to be comfortable but not so thick that it eats into the already limited headroom above the bunk. We will check the clearance for your specific model before recommending a depth.
