Browse All Caravan Mattress Shapes

We manufacture 62 different replacement mattress shapes for touring caravans, motorhomes, campervans, and boats. Every shape is custom-made to measure in our Birmingham factory. Select your size above to get started.

Rectangular Caravan Mattresses

Standard rectangular replacement caravan mattresses for bunk beds, pull-out beds, side dinettes, and fixed bed layouts. The most versatile shape, suitable for nearly all touring caravan sleeping arrangements where a simple rectangle fits the bed frame.

Island Bed Caravan Mattresses

Replacement island bed mattresses for touring caravans with rear island bed layouts. These feature curved or rounded foot-ends to fit around the bed frame and maximise floor space. Popular with Bailey Unicorn, Swift Elegance, Elddis Crusader, Buccaneer, and Coachman VIP owners. Made to measure for any make, model, or year.

Narrow Caravan Mattresses (Singles & Bunks)

Narrow single caravan mattresses for bunk beds, children's berths, side singles, and compact sleeping areas in touring caravans and motorhomes. These narrower designs feature the same shaped cuts as our full-width mattresses but sized for single sleepers.

Caravan Mattresses with Splits (Multi-Piece)

Split caravan mattresses in two, three, or more pieces. Perfect for caravans, motorhomes, and boats where the mattress needs to fold for transport, hinge for storage access, or stack away when converting from bed to seating. You choose exactly where the split goes during checkout.

Boat Mattresses

Custom boat mattresses including V-berth designs for forward cabins, hull-shaped mattresses that follow curved hull walls, and nonagon shapes for unusual cabin layouts. Made to measure for narrowboats, canal boats, sailing yachts, motor cruisers, and Dutch barges. All boat mattresses feature moisture-resistant materials suitable for marine environments.

Special Shape Mattresses

Specialist mattress shapes for unusual sleeping arrangements including circular round beds, HGV lorry cabs for professional drivers, and completely custom designs. If you have a bed that doesn't fit any standard category, we can make a mattress to match any shape you can draw.

Replacement Caravan Mattresses Made to Measure

If you have spent a few nights on your caravan's original mattress, you will know the problem. Most manufacturers fit mattresses that are 10-15cm deep at best — adequate for the showroom, but not for a fortnight's touring. After more than 40 years making replacement caravan mattresses, we have seen the same story thousands of times: customers going home after their caravan holiday tired and achy, frustrated that they have spent thousands on a caravan only to find it comes with a mattress that offers neither support nor comfort.

The truth is, caravan manufacturers focus their budget on kitchens, washrooms and upholstery. The mattress is an afterthought — usually cheap foam that compresses within a season or two. A proper replacement transforms your touring caravan from somewhere you sleep into somewhere you actually rest.

Why Factory Caravan Mattresses Fall Short

Most OEM caravan mattresses use foam rated at 28-30kg per cubic metre. It feels fine when you lie on it in the dealer's showroom, but that density bottoms out quickly under regular use — particularly if you are over 12 stone. We use minimum 33kg per cubic metre reflex foam as standard, going up to 39kg per cubic metre for some of our premium mattresses. The difference is immediately noticeable and lasts for years rather than months.

Manufacturers also keep mattresses thin to maximise headroom and reduce berth weight. But there is a significant comfort difference between a 10cm mattress and an 18cm one, and most caravans have more headroom than you would think. We have fitted deeper mattresses — up to 25cm deep — in thousands of touring caravans without any clearance issues, transforming people's quality of sleep on their holidays. No more grumpy days on site.

What We Have Learned About Specific Brands

Bailey's island beds from 2018 onwards have large curved corners at the foot end that catch people out when measuring at home — the radius of these curves can be up to 60cm, which makes fitting a standard high street mattress impossible. A rectangular mattress would overhang and impede the space in the bedroom to the point where you may not be able to walk around the bed with sufficient room. Swift's Elegance range often has a curved headboard recess that needs accounting for in the mattress shape. Lunar caravans tend to have slightly narrower French beds than they appear, and Coachman's lift-up island beds need careful consideration of mattress weight if you want the gas struts to work properly. We make all of our mattresses to ensure the load placed on the struts does not overload and damage the mechanics.

These are the details that only come from making mattresses for these caravans day in, day out. We have mapped virtually every touring caravan layout from the past 40 years — from modern Elddis and Adria models to classic Abbey and Avondale vans that are still going strong.

Common Mistakes When Replacing a Caravan Mattress

The most frequent error we see is measuring the bed base rather than the sleeping area. Caravan beds often have lips, recesses and curved corners that do not show up if you simply measure the wooden platform. We will guide you through exactly what to measure — or if you are anywhere near Birmingham, bring your caravan to our showroom and we will measure it properly for free.

Another common mistake is buying a standard rectangular mattress for an island bed or French bed. These always have shaped corners — sometimes subtle, sometimes dramatic — and a rectangular mattress will either leave gaps or bunch up against the walls. Neither makes for a good night's sleep.

Hand-Sewn Precision You Will Not Find Elsewhere

Cutting a curved corner in foam is one thing. Making a cover that follows every millimetre of that curve — with no bunching, no puckering, no shortcuts — is something else entirely. This is where our seamstresses demonstrate craftsmanship that most caravan mattress manufacturers cannot match.

Look closely at the corners on one of our caravan mattresses and you will see the cover shaped and sewn to follow the exact contour of the cut. Whether it is a sweeping island bed curve or an angled French bed corner, every shape is accounted for. This is not machine work — it is done by hand, by skilled seamstresses who have been perfecting this craft for years.

Most manufacturers use generic covers stretched over standard shapes. When they encounter a curved corner or an unusual angle, they compromise — either the cover bunches up at the edges, or they round off the shape to make it easier, or they simply refuse to make it at all. We do not compromise. If your caravan bed has a complex corner radius, our seamstresses will sew a cover that fits that curve perfectly.

We know our competitors. They simply do not have the skilled staff to pull off this level of finish. This is what separates a proper bespoke caravan mattress from a modified off-the-shelf product — and it is the difference between something that fits and something that fits perfectly.

Choosing the Right Mattress Type for Touring

Weight matters in a caravan. A pocket sprung mattress offers excellent support but can weigh 25-30kg — fine if you have got payload to spare, but problematic if you are already close to your MTPLM. Our Bodyshape memory foam caravan mattresses typically weigh 12-18kg and provide comparable comfort with better weight distribution.

Caravans are also prone to condensation, especially in cooler months. This is why we do not recommend solid memory foam for caravan use — it does not breathe well and can trap moisture against the bed base. Our caravan-specific mattresses use breathable covers and ventilated foam cores designed for the unique environment inside a touring caravan.

If you need to fold your mattress for travel or to access under-bed storage, this affects your options too. Pocket sprung mattresses do not fold well, but we can make hinged or sectioned mattresses in any filling to suit your specific requirements. We offer two types of linking options: zip links and fabric links. Fabric links provide a permanent join, whilst zip links allow you to separate the sections completely when needed.

How We Make Your Caravan Mattress

Every mattress we make starts with your measurements. Caravan beds are rarely standard sizes, and even "standard" models vary between manufacturers and production years. We will ask you for length, width, and corner details — with clear guidance on exactly how to measure.

Your mattress is then made to order in our Birmingham workshop. We do not hold stock of pre-made sizes; every caravan mattress is cut and assembled specifically for your caravan. This means you get an exact fit, not a near-enough approximation. Production typically takes 7-14 working days depending on the mattress type, and we will keep you updated throughout.

Touring Caravan Mattress Questions

Common questions about replacement caravan mattresses — answered by people who have been making them for 40 years

Which touring caravan brands do you make replacement mattresses for?
+

We make replacement caravan mattresses for every touring caravan brand — current models and those going back decades. The brands we see most often include:

  • Bailey: Unicorn, Phoenix, Ranger, Pursuit, Pegasus — we know the large curved corners on post-2018 island beds
  • Swift: Challenger, Conqueror, Elegance, Sprite, Sterling — including the curved headboard recesses on Elegance models
  • Lunar: Clubman, Delta, Lexon, Cosmos, Stellar — their French beds run slightly narrower than most
  • Compass: Corona, Capiro, Casita, Camino
  • Coachman: VIP, Laser, Pastiche, Festival — we account for gas strut weight limits on lift-up beds
  • Elddis: Avante, Crusader, Buccaneer, Xplore
  • Adria: Alpina, Adora, Action, Astella
  • Hobby: Ontour, De Luxe, Excellent, Prestige

We also make mattresses for discontinued brands like Abbey, ABI, Avondale, and Bessacarr. If you have got an older caravan, we have almost certainly made mattresses for that model before.

How do I measure my caravan bed correctly?
+

The most common mistake is measuring the bed base rather than the actual sleeping area. Caravan beds often have lips, recesses and curved corners. Here is what we recommend:

  • Use our Shape Selector: Choose your bed type (island bed, French bed, single, etc.) and we will show you exactly what to measure
  • Measure the sleeping area: Not the base — measure where the mattress will actually sit
  • Check the corners: Most caravan beds have shaped corners, even if they look rectangular at first glance
  • Note any obstructions: Wardrobe corners, headboard curves, wall fixtures

If you are unsure, call us on 0121 663 6114. Tell us your caravan make, model and year, and we can usually tell you the exact dimensions from our database. Or visit our Birmingham showroom with your caravan for free professional measuring.

Why is my factory caravan mattress so uncomfortable?
+

Caravan manufacturers allocate most of their budget to kitchens, washrooms and upholstery — the things that sell caravans in the showroom. The mattress is usually an afterthought. Here is what is typically wrong with factory-fitted mattresses:

  • Low-density foam: Most use 28-30kg per cubic metre foam that bottoms out quickly, especially for heavier sleepers
  • Too thin: Factory mattresses are typically 10-15cm deep to maximise headroom, but this compromises comfort significantly
  • One-size-fits-all: A 10-stone person and an 18-stone person need completely different support — factory mattresses cannot accommodate this
  • Poor materials: Cheap covers that do not breathe, leading to condensation issues

A proper replacement caravan mattress using 35kg per cubic metre or higher foam and appropriate depth makes an immediate, noticeable difference to your sleep quality on site.

Can I use a regular mattress in my touring caravan?
+

We would strongly advise against it. A standard home mattress creates several problems in a caravan:

  • Wrong shape: Island beds and French beds have curved or angled corners — a rectangular mattress will leave gaps or bunch against the walls
  • Too heavy: Home mattresses can weigh 40-50kg, seriously affecting your payload and towing stability
  • Condensation issues: Home mattresses are not designed for the temperature variations inside a caravan — they will trap moisture and potentially develop mould
  • Will not fit through the door: Most home mattresses are too rigid to manoeuvre through a caravan doorway
  • No ventilation: Caravan bed bases need airflow underneath — home mattresses block this completely

A purpose-built caravan mattress solves all these problems whilst giving you proper support and comfort.

What is the difference between your caravan mattress options?
+

We offer several comfort levels, each designed specifically for touring caravan use:

  • Essential Comfort: High-density reflex foam (35kg per cubic metre), excellent for occasional weekends away — our most popular budget option
  • Bodyshape Memory Foam: Body-contouring comfort that adapts to your shape, ideal for couples with different preferences — weighs 12-18kg
  • CoolPlus Cooling: Gel-infused memory foam that regulates temperature, perfect for summer touring or if you sleep hot
  • Imperial Elite 2000 Pocket Spring: 2000 individual springs for traditional bounce and support — weighs more (25-30kg) but excellent for heavier sleepers
  • Premium Hybrid: Memory foam comfort layer over pocket springs, the best of both worlds

All options include caravan-specific features: breathable covers, reinforced edges, and construction that handles the movement and temperature changes of touring life.

Do you make mattresses for older or vintage touring caravans?
+

Absolutely — we have been doing this for over 40 years, so we have made mattresses for virtually every touring caravan ever built in the UK:

  • Modern caravans (2008+): Full model database with exact dimensions
  • Classic caravans (1980s-2007): Archived measurements from thousands of orders
  • Vintage caravans (pre-1980s): Custom measuring via templates we send to you
  • Discontinued brands: Abbey, ABI, Avondale, Bessacarr, Fleetwood and many more
  • Modified layouts: If you have altered your caravan interior, we can work with whatever shape you need

If we do not have your caravan in our database, we will send you a free measuring kit or talk you through the process on the phone.

How long does delivery take?
+

Every caravan mattress is made to order in our Birmingham workshop — we do not hold stock of pre-made sizes. Typical timescales:

  • Foam mattresses: 7-10 working days
  • Memory foam mattresses: 10-14 working days
  • Pocket spring mattresses: 14-21 working days
  • Delivery: FREE to most UK mainland addresses

Your mattress arrives vacuum-packed for easy handling through your caravan door. It reaches full expansion within 4-6 hours of unpacking. We will keep you updated throughout production with tracking information.

What guarantee do you offer?
+

All our caravan mattresses come with comprehensive guarantees (3-10 years depending on the mattress type) covering:

  • Manufacturing defects: Materials, construction, stitching
  • Structural integrity: Premature sagging or loss of support beyond normal wear
  • Material performance: Foam density, spring integrity, cover quality

Our Perfect Fit Promise: If we have measured incorrectly or the mattress does not fit your caravan properly, we will remake it free of charge. We have been doing this for 40 years — we stand behind every mattress we make.

Do you make mattresses for caravan bunks and dinettes?
+

Yes — we make caravan mattresses for every sleeping arrangement, not just the main bed:

  • Bunk mattresses: Lightweight options perfect for children's areas, typically 8-10cm deep
  • Dinette mattresses: Custom cushions that convert to comfortable sleeping surfaces — we can match existing upholstery depth
  • Pull-out beds: Flexible mattresses designed to fold or hinge for storage
  • Over-cab areas: Lightweight mattresses for Luton sleeping spaces
  • Side dinettes: L-shaped and corner configurations

Each sleeping area has different requirements — children's bunks need to be light enough for them to handle, dinettes need to match your seating height, pull-outs need to fold properly. We will guide you through the options for your specific layout.
